We’re looking for whale lovers to volunteer for our Whale Watching Spoken Here program. Become a trained volunteer at one of the 24 whale watching sites along Oregon’s coast during winter and spring watch weeks, when gray whales migrate along the Pacific coast on their way to and from Alaska.  The Whale Watching Weeks are set for Dec. 26-31, 2013 and March 22-29, 2014.

Renowned whale expert Dr. Bruce Mate is the speaker for the first training Nov. 30, 2013, at the Hatfield Marine Science Center in Newport. Dr. Mate is the director of the Oregon State University Marine Mammal Institute. Volunteers who complete the one-day training can select a whale watching site where you’ll be stationed to help visitors spot gray whales and keep up a count of whales spotted.
